Cons: DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS ONLINE
Holmes seems like a decent guy and knows his stuff, but I took this class online. That was a mistake. His weekly videos only covered half of what we were supposed to know and he did only one or two examples for each chapter. The tests and homework were all done on Mastering Engineering, which is a really bad way to do tests. I don't really know much about Holmes, but don't take this class online

Pros: tests were pretty easy, nice guy.
Cons: homework on the dreadful mastering engineering platform, not taught all of material in class, very difficult. Didn't learn nearly as much as the other classes, final was rough.
he wasn't a bad teacher, but had difficulty answering questions asked in class. If you can get Chang, definitely go for it, but Holmes class was better than De Vita and Kris for sure.

Pros: Very nice professor. Always willing to help. Lots of office hour times.
Cons: Is new to teaching so not everything goes smoothly in class. The tests and homework tend to be fairly difficult at times.

Pros: Very nice and willing to help if you ask. He tries to help you understand and actually seems to care about teaching. Also has an excellent beard.
Cons: His tests were sometimes hard and graded harshly where other time they were laughably easy. I'm sure this will improve as he teaches more.
Dr. Holmes was a great guy who genuinely cared about teaching and his students. He took time to help (even outside of his office hours), and he cared more about you understanding what was going on than getting you out of his office. There were times when his derivations didn't quite work out, and I was also frustrated that he'd often use the same symbol to represent 2 different things throughout the course. However, I'd recommend taking his class if you have the chance. All of the cons are outweighed greatly by his willingness to help and the fact that he's not afraid to curve his tests.

Pros: Very nice guy. Knowledgeable.
Cons: He has made a couple major mistakes on homework grading, test grading, and in class derivations.
It is very obvious that Dr. Holmes is new to teaching. I learned a lot in his class, and his grading and curving made up for his mistakes. Be patient with him and don't be afraid to ask him questions about his homework and test problems.

Pros: Nice enough person
Cons: The assigned book does not cover the material on the homework.
His notes are haphazardly strewn together and difficult to follow with very few examples.
He is often incorrect

Pros: Nice beard
Cons: Test material not like homework
The class isn't too difficult, but he is quite often wrong (i.e. he memorizes a derivation and does it incorrectly in class but writes the final result anyway as if he did it right) and the homework is pretty different than the exams. He is knowledgeable, but clearly he has a few things to work out in terms of his teaching abilities.
